Soldiers Beach Surf Life Saving Club

Beach Chat – Sept 2017

Welcome to your monthly club newsletter.

September has been a busy start once again as the 2017–18 season kicks off.
We have had 3 rego days & it is good to see familiar faces returning to pull on the green & white for another season. What is also encouraging are the new faces that have registered with us.

Welcome to the club. We look forward to seeing you all on your beach this season & hope you have a great year.

A few brave souls have completed their requal swims in chilly conditions, stay tuned for more dates. A reminder here that competitors must have their requals completed by Dec 31 to compete from January onwards. More dates will be announced so please do not leave this until the last minute as it is your responsibility to have this done on time.

Another reminder that swimming continues at Toukley Pool on Wednesday nights from 6.30pm to 7.45pm. Come along & swim for pool entry only, even after you have done your proficiency swim. A big thank you here to Central Coast Council & Pool staff for supporting the club & allowing us to use the facility after hours.

On another note, Toukley Pool also extended us the opportunity to host a BBQ on their open day on Sept 30 as a fundraiser & community engagement opportunity. A big thanks to Toukley Pool for this opportunity & its’ continuing support for the club & an especially big thanks to our Director of Admin Jacqui & her husband Kevin who answered the call & manned the BBQ for the afternoon.

Speaking of club supporters, we have just renewed our support agreement with Wyong Rugby League Club Group. Once again WRLCG will support the club & our bar operations along with cash sponsorship for our lifesaving operations. In turn, we encourage all our members to support the WRLCG at all their venues across the coast. Stay tuned for a few fantastic opportunities for our members supported by WRLCG a little later in the season.

The start of the season is also the annual Mingara Pool Challenge. This is a pool rescue event with competitors from nippers to masters. Soldiers managed a 4th place overall which is a fantastic effort against some much more experienced clubs.

Our first patrols have started & our opening weekend was also the raising of the flags with Soldiers represented at Shelly Beach for the annual event. Thanks to Emma Atkins & Jacob Kable for representing us.

You may have noticed that the Sunset Bar & Anthony’s kitchen is open again. We also now have another sponsor who has come on board for the season. Thrifty Car Rentals is supporting Soldiers Beach this season with the supply of a bus for the use of the club.

Another big thank you to Thrifty for their support & a reminder to support our sponsors where we can. If you are in the market for car rentals please give our sponsors a call!.

Our first carnival for the year has been run & won. The Annual Foster Weekend of Surf has been held for the 23rd year with Soldiers a credible 8th overall in a carnival of 40 clubs from up & down the NSW coast. Another fantastic event for Soldiers with our competitors featuring in all categories from masters to nippers with notable performances from master’s competitors taking home the bacon in every age group along with our u/19 competitors & credible performances from our U/17s & nippers.

Another successful trip from our Soldiers touring Team. Thanks to our team manager Leanne Justin & our officials Robyn Ray & Alex Coppen.

Next weekend is the famous Coolangatta Gold. Again, Soldiers is represented in surf lifesaving’s premier event by 2 competitors. Craig Ray & Dennis Ricketts. This year is a return visit to this gruelling event by 2 of our club favourites & we wish them all the best for their event. “Go get em fellas”.

Senior board training has begun & juniors will start soon watch the Facebook page for details. Point score has begun every Sunday morning, come along & check it out or maybe come along to Soldiers Salty Saturday every Saturday at 8.30. this is open to everyone no skill required just some fun & fitness with a coffee to recover.

A special note that our Nipper Parent training day is this Sat Oct 8 & our nipper induction & bronze & SRC induction is on Tues 10th Oct.

Another reminder to keep up with all the latest news on the Soldiers Beach Facebook page & our website.

The website has a calendar with all our important dates listed & more info can be found on the Facebook page. Please note that there is always something happening & your club needs you to be involved.

See you all on the beach. Go Soldiers!!!.
