About Nippers
Welcome to Soldiers Beach Surf Life Saving Club and the Nipper movement. We hope you will enjoy your time with us and look forward to your participation, as you watch and become involved in your child/children learn about Surf Life Saving. Children who join Nippers can look forward to learning water and beach skills as well as basic first-aid skills that will enable them to become competent Surf Life Savers, a famous Australian icon, known world wide for their bravery and tireless community service.
This guide is to inform you of the way Soldiers Beach Nippers is run. It contains information that is important to the safety of your child and explains the way our beach days are organised. It also contains a brief explanation of Nipper events, these events are run according to the same rules for all Nipper competition throughout Australia.
Junior activities for Nippers are held at Soldiers Beach on:
Sunday mornings at 9.30am
Soldiers Beach Surf Lifesaving Club (SLSC) holds Junior “Nippers” activities every Sunday morning from the beginning of the season in October through to the NSW Junior State titles in February. Nippers is a fun activity that gives kids the chance to go to the beach and learn some good life and surf skills. It gives children a good understanding of the surf with specific surf education, as well giving them the opportunity to enjoy a good social activity and improve their fitness. Nippers also offers those kids who are keen an opportunity to compete against and make friends with kids from Surf Clubs across the Central Coast and State. At Soldiers Beach we are currently trying to establish a strong culture of surf skills leading to improved success at the highest levels of Junior Competition.
It's always good to get down to the Beach early on a Sunday morning and see friends from school, from swimming lessons, footy, soccer or netball. Soldiers Beach SLSC is located in a developing area, which is heavily populated by young families. We are striving to develop a friendly family atmosphere where new members are welcomed and kids are not daunted by a heavily competitive environment.
Objectives
- To teach our kids to be safe in the water by providing surf skills and education.
- To provide safe “fun” activities for our future surf lifesavers whilst introducing them to the Surf Lifesaving community.
- To provide a good fitness base and appreciation of a healthy lifestyle to our young Nippers.
- To encourage competition in Junior Surf Life Saving events throughout the season leading to the NSW State Championships.
- To encourage strong membership within our Soldiers Beach Surf Lifesaving Club.
- To encourage social interaction and activities with our membership
Soldiers Beach SLSC Nippers strive to provide organised sports and fun activities on the beach and/or in the water for all our Nippers (children from 5 years upwards). Each Sunday during the Lifesaving season we aim to provide activities aimed at promoting surf skills in a fun environment that improve their surf skills and encourage participation in the Surf Lifesaving movement.
Nipper Activities for the 2007/08 season commence on Sunday 14th October 2007 at 9:30am
